Workshops

We are running a series of 5 monthly creative writing workshops from May to September 2010 at The Lights in Andover

Each session is stand-alone, and suitable for all levels of experience. Topics will be explored using light-hearted but effective games and exercises.

The workshops will run from 7pm - 9pm on the first Tuesday of the month and will cost £10 per session.  Participants are welcome to attend any combination of workshops. A discount of £5 will be given to anyone coming to all five. Please note that workshops with fewer than 3 participants will be cancelled.

To book a place, please email us at enquiries@plotmedics.com or contact us via our web form.

4th May 2010: Stake Your Claim - Finding Time and Space to Write.
You want to write, but somehow, there’s never time.  You have a job, children, partner, pets, and you need to fit in a social life and some exercise. This workshop will help you find space in your schedule, use small amounts of time effectively, and keep the story alive when you're not writing.

1st June 2010: Let's Get This Story Started
You want to write a story or a novel, but you don’t know where to start. You have one or more great characters, or a magnificent setting, or a really cool idea; but no plot.  Or perhaps your novel is wandering around without going anywhere. In this workshop, we'll look at the basic elements of plot, how to construct a plot when you don't have one, and how to keep it working.

6th July 2010: Bringing Characters to Life and Life to Characters
Characters are one of the main things we remember from our favourite fiction. Come and find out how to create characters who will stay with your reader; because they’d like to be them, like to be with them, or hope to heck they never meet anyone remotely like them....

3rd August 2010: Dialogue -  Now You're Talking
Everybody talks, but how do you get dialogue right?  And why is it so difficult when you hear it all around you?  We'll take you through the basic functions of dialogue in fiction and show you how to make your characters sound like real people.

7th September 2010: How to Outline Your Novel
Do you have beginnings of novels and no finished ones? Do you keep getting stuck at the same place? Do you hate very the idea of outlines and see them as a way to stifle creativity? Whether you're a "pantser" or a plotter, we'll demonstrate different techniques to help you design a method that suits you.
